Picasa

I use Picasa to manage the pictures on my computer. I have recently started uploading them to picasaweb as well, in light of Google’s offer of 20GB for $5/year. I won’t be renewing my Flickr Pro account because of Google’s offer.

Since I don’t want all of my pictures viewable online but I do want an backup of them, I still upload pictures to my Facebook account. I found a button that you can add to your Picasa toolbar that will upload the picture(s) directly to Facebook.

Give it a try, it’s very nice!

this may or may not work. I’m attempting to embed a wavelet into this post. I found a plugin named “wavr” that will allow me to do that.

Edit: here is how you figure out the wave id

[wave id="googlewave.com!w+5Nz5HFI2B" server="https://wave.google.com/wave/" bgcolor="#FFF"]

wordpress_logo I was reading crackberry.com and noticed two little words there, “thanks acedanger” that linked to the request/feedback category on the WordPress for Blackberry forum.

If you read here at all, you may remember that I posted something about the app where, pointing out that you couldn’t paste a URL in the dialog box that appeared. Ranaan found my post and created a topic about the issue.

The paste URL issue was added to the last beta version of the software, version 0.9.0.134.

Since I had to reinstall my blog from scratch, I downloaded and installed a new contact form, Contact Form 7. Tonight, I’ve been getting spammed like crazy from it! I really like the simplicity of setting it up. It also provides a lot of flexibility. Due to tonights spam, I finally had to install a captcha system, Really Simple CAPTCHA.

I hope it stops this crap because it’s annoying as hell. My blackberry was going nuts!!

wordpress_logoWordPress created an app (ota install here) for creating and maintaining blog posts. I created (and mistakenly deleted) a small post over on my everything else blog.

The app is in beta and has some room to grow. The biggest pain in the ass that I noticed was creating a link. I had a url copied but could not paste it into the “are you trying to create a link” dialog that I was shown. Other than that, it’s definitely a cool application. I can’t wait to see how it evolves.

Installing Wibiya

Wibiya

I signed up for Wibiya a while ago, when I read about it on a tech blog (of which I can’t remember at the moment). I quickly got an invite and it sat…for a very long time. Busy with life and in the “neglect the blog” phase I suppose.

I’m finally getting around to installing it on my blog but I can’t – I’m having issues at the final step. The problem I’m having is that the only link that I can click on the finalization step is the blogger image. This blog is a self-hosted wordpress install. I went to getsatisfaction.com and submitted a question about it. I twittered about it and mentioned @wibiya. I’m hoping that I hear something back soon.

I did a few google searches for this issue and didn’t find anything, so I think I’m missing a step somewhere.

…and before I can click “Publish”, I got a response from @wibiya on twitter letting me know that they are looking into it. That was fast…yet another reason that I’m loving twitter more and more.

Update: It’s fixed! That was awesomely fast! Thanks @wibiya, thanks twitter!!

Wow, just wow

It has been fixed but fixing it damaged something else. For shame. I feel that the “something else” is beyond repair.

I’ve been trying to make use of the Shared Items in Google Reader and show them on my blog. I’ve tried a couple of different RSS widgets without success, until this morning.

I found a widget that will display the feed correctly. It is called Google Reader widget and was written by James Wilson.

The problem with using the pre-installed RSS feed widget from WordPress was that the URL linked is malformed and if clicked, would take the user to a page that did not exist, resulting in an error page. For example, one of my shared items is a post that I wrote when we found out the gender of our new baby (which is a boy :D ). From the pre-installed RSS widget, the following URL is linked: “http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/acedanger/~3/173558267/http://www.acedanger.com”; from  the new widget, the URL linked is “http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/acedanger/~3/173558267/”.

The reason for the malformed URL is because of the formatting of the XML produced. The pre-installed widget is expecting the XML to be formatted according to the RSS 2.0 standard but  the XML produced by the Google Reader Shared Items feed is in the Atom standard.

That’s about as technical as I get. I know there is a difference but don’t care to be bothered with the details (not right now anyway).

Insomnia

View Comments

Meri and I were in bed, getting ready to fall asleep and then she started talking about work and how she didn’t want to go back tomorrow. That got me talking (and thinking) about my job. Then I started bitching…and bitching and bitching and bitching. So now, about 2 hours later (yeah, we go to bed early here), I’m online. I feel like I should redo my once-proud website.

Revisiting development on that site got me thinking about Barry‘s site: FeedBang.com. Dammit man! I was once at peace with not continuing development on PeopleArray.com and someone alright with letting my PHP skills get rusty. Now that I saw that you’ve done work to FeedBang.com, I feel like I need to get off my ass and update that site! Good work on FeedBang.com Barry; it looks pretty cool and I really like that you’ve added the ability to login with openid.

I remember my days at Terminix when I had all kinds of time to develop a site like PeopleArray.com. I once went three weeks doing absolutely nothing, besides asking my manager for something to do. Yeah, that’s right, 3 weeks…in a row!

I loved working for Terminix (both because of the people and the company) but I hated Memphis. I’m glad to be gone but I’m not happy where I ended up. I love being back in Florida but dislike my job. I have learned a lot. I’m proud to say that I know a LOT about LANSA Web! I’m just hoping that I can find a job where I can continue doing either LANSA Web or get back to some Visual LANSA.

….

Ok, so insomnia is not letting go of it’s grip and I just visited Digg.com and Reddit.com. I haven’t been to those sites in a really long time. Normally I just read them through Google Reader.

….

Is it weird to laugh at something I blogged about a long time ago? I remember writing this and even the details of the circumstances surrounding the issue. Stupid financial month reports. Anyway, I laughed about this blog entry: http://www.acedanger.com/2006/06/08/808008704-megabytes/.

….

Good night (I hope).

I just registered a new domain, LansaDocs.com. I registered it because the current Lansa documentation is somewhat lacking and needs some tender loving care that only the users (developers) of Lansa can provide. I have installed a Wiki (MediaWiki to be exact) so that the users can modify or add notes as they see fit.

It is my hope that the Lansa developers will begin to use and help maintain the site so that the Lansa documentation can be a bit more user-friendly and contain some very useful information. My target audience can currently be found at the Lansa Yahoo Group, which is currently the most useful Lansa help facility available.
