As of yesterday, I am officially a business owner!  I got my license in the mail.

Did you know that business taxes run July 1 to June 30?  I didn’t either!  I submitted the paperwork for my business license on June 22nd and got a temporary (7 day) license and that ran out yesterday.  Then I got two things in the mail, my permanent license and a tax form!  The tax form was for July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006.  I thought it was kinda funny that I got my permanent license on the same day that I got my tax for for the previous year, even thought I wasn’t technically in business yet; on the business license form, I stated that I wanted my business to officially be open as of July 1, 2006.

I’ve decided on a name and a purpose and done my first bit of legwork.

My company name is going to be Platinum Grade Consulting. My purpose will be two-fold:

  • Web Development (immediately)
  • Lansa Consulting (someday)

Last night, I got the paperwork from the Bartlett Town Hall. I still have to fill it out and turn it in. I’m pretty excited about this. This morning, I registered the domain platinumgrade.com.

I’ve been thinking (again) of starting a new company. My new company would basically be a way for me to start writing off some of my “hobbie” expenses: domain, hosting, internet connection, computer, books, etc. (is there any way to write off time wasted “researching”?).

Tennessee doesn’t exactly make the information needed to start a small business very easy to find, relative to how “easy” it is to come across whatever information you would need for starting a business in Florida: go to a website, read. I have yet to come across such a one-stop informational website for starting a business here in wonderful Tennessee.

My business would have two purposes for now: (1) web design/development, and (2) Lansa consulting. The Lansa consulting would be a fall back thing for me when I decide to start working for myself, something that is very, very easy to do with a Lansa background. Lansa contractors make tons of cash!

The only person I know who has a business in TN is Barry. I’ll be asking him a few questions regarding starting up my own personal tax shelter!
