I have been checking out hosting companies since I’ve been doing more web development. I’m happy doing PHP so I’m not high maintenance at all. I would like to play around with Ruby on Rails, a little bit of Python, PHP definitely, and definitely a bit of Perl. Well, my current hosting company, Hostexcellence, doesn’t offer Ruby or Python.  Dreamhost does offer all of these.  Hostexcellence does offer more storage space (25 GB vs. 20 GB) and offer more free domains (8 vs 1).  Dreamhost is more of a web developer’s hosting company that it is for the general population.  I don’t want to have to install all of those programming environments to be able to mess around with them.  I may never do anything more than write a “hello world” web app with any of them but PHP but it would be nice to be able to have those options open.  One thing that Hostexcellence offers that is very nice is the live 24/7 chatting support.  I’ve used that on many occasions and it is awesome!  I’m going to hate to leave that behind!
