ace’s blog

a place for me to record events in my life.

I just scanned through my entire blog and checked the date of my first post and saw that it’s been over a year since I started this thing!  I’ve had my websites, in their many forms, for over 3 years now.  I think that’s pretty cool!  Some of the posts I scanned included my plethora of posts about me starting a Masters degree.  I don’t think that is going to happen but this time, it is for a different reason (as opposed to the first time I thought it was over).  I feel like I’m happier now doing what I do.  I have time to write web apps when I want to and that’s important to me as it is one of my new passions.  I have been doing a ton of posting in this month, including 5 posts today!  I don’t really know what’s gotten into me, lately I’ve been on this kick where I want to link my old posts like crazy.  This post has like 7 internal links in it already!

Meri is out tonight with the women of her playgroup (well, Aaron’s playgroup technically).  One of the women is moving out of town because her husband got a new job.  So since I’ve had this opportunity to be home alone, I’ve been uber-geeky and have been working on my blog and the websites that I use every day (digg.com, bloglines.com, and now feedburner.com:my blog feed).  I’ve also taken this opportunity to post to some technical (web-dev) blogs to post some comments and make sure to post my blog address in the hopes that some people will be intrigued and pay my sites a visit and maybe click on some ads.  Well the getting people to click on an add part worked and I can tell because I have one click on a Google Adsense ad!  Woohoo baby, my websites have generated $0.15 of revenue!  One of the blogs that I read over tonight had some good information regarding ads placement on blogs.  It was a pretty interesting read.  I have added that blog to my reading list on bloglines.com.

Well enough posting for tonight.  I think I’m just going to enjoy the rest of my alone time till Meri gets home.

MONEY Magazine and Salary.com researched hundreds of jobs, considering their growth, pay, stress-levels and other factors. These careers ranked highest.

This is funny because I just had my official title changed from
“Application Developer” to “Software Engineer” AND I just got a raise.

…and that’s a lot of cash considering;

“Americans alone did more than 2.7 billion searches via Google in January 2006″

and as digg.com user beelz commented:

2.7 billion * .12 = three hundred twenty-four million

…and that’s a whole lotta cash for just searching! That does not include revenue generated from users clicking on the sponsored links or the Adsense links.

Today at work

Lately, I’ve been so scatter-brained at work that I haven’t been earning my check at all!  I’ve been working on editting the source code of the theme for my blog and reading about AJAX apps and web development in general.  Well today, I actually got some work done.  I got a few loose ends tied up and a talked to a few people that needed talking to (nothing bad, goes along the lines of the loose end thing).  I feel better about today than I have felt about any of the previous days this week.  I’ve still got to get my mind wrapped around this Lockbox function here at work.  It’s my “top” priority, until Lansa support gets back to me about the Damage Claim Web Service.

official raise

It has been approved!  My 5% raise is now official and has been made effective April 15th and will be reflected on my May 1st check.  WOOT!  Now I wonder when the shit will hit the fan with the renewals?!

In similar news, more money in my check = a greater reduction for my 401(k)!  That deduction is one that makes me happy.  For only have been contributing for 6 months now, I’ve got a pretty hefty balance thus far, thanks to the company matching.  Yay free money, yay!
